Bordering the North Atlantic Ocean, Guyana is a former British colony located between Suriname and Venezuela and is South America’s only English-speaking country. Guyana’s fledgling oil sector is still relatively unexploited and offers huge potential for investors, with the Guyanese-Suriname sedimentary basin widely believed to be the second most attractive underexplored basin in the world, with a potential of 15.2b barrels of oil. Companies currently active in this region include UK-based Tullow Oil, Spain’s Repsol and Canada’s CGX. Our strategy in Guyana Operating through Minexco Petroleum Guyana, we have a strong and growing foothold in Guyana and have capitalised on our experience in other key regions to establish long and fruitful relationships with the Guyanese government. We’re currently actively engaged in discussions to acquire a petroleum block and have invested in a highly successful social scheme in Guyana, with an MBA course at its heart. We also develop and run a professional development and training programme for government agencies.
